Telemics' Wireless System
in Arizona Street Light Test
LOUISVILLE, KY (September 8, 2005) – Phoenix,
AZ based electrical utility APS has embarked on a pilot program
to evaluate the benefits of wireless enabling street lights using
technology developed by Louisville, KY based Telemics, Inc.
By remotely monitoring each individual street light via a wireless
network connected to the Internet, APS hopes to improve efficiency
and reduce outage time.
The utility, which maintains over 150,000 street lights across
the state of Arizona, has already deployed a user friendly web
site, www.APS.com, which makes it convenient for customers to
report street lighting outages.
Telemics’ remote monitoring system is marketed under the
GE StreetSmarts™ brand in the USA and Canada by Hendersonville,
NC based GE Lighting Systems, Inc. The system is designed to deliver
further enhancements to APS’s customer service by automatically
reporting faults as soon as they occur therefore allowing the
APS repair crews to find and fix the faults faster.
Eddie Johnson, President & CEO of Telemics, commented “The
City of Los Angeles is already in the process of deploying the
system after successfully completing extensive trials and we are
delighted that APS has made the decision to commence field trials.
We very much look forward to working with their team over the
coming months to demonstrate the operational improvements the
system is able to deliver.”
