Looking At Wellness Through An Investor Lens

Recently, Jan Bruce, CEO of portfolio company meQuilibrium was a guest on the The Willis Report on Fox Business.  A link to the video clip can be found here.  In the segment, Jan discusses how to reduce holiday stress and just enjoy the holiday season.  meQuilibrium understands how to impact the root of the stress problem — by changing behavior for long term results.

As investors in healthcare and technology companies, we look at wellness through a different lens.  Core to many of our investments is providing solutions to make the healthcare system more efficient and effective.  While these companies provide meaningful solutions, we are firm believers that changing the America’s healthcare system will improve only if we fix the root of the problem….our health.

Many companies recognize that healthy employees translates to healthy bottom lines.  Thus, three out of five employers (61%) offer a corporate wellness program.  We write more about that here.  After all, health-related productivity losses cost employers $225.8 billion per year.  Companies are taking employee wellness more seriously now as they’re trying to figure out the right solution to combat rising health issues and healthcare costs — meQuilibrium is tackling the stress piece of the puzzle.

Congrats to Jan and her team at meQuilibrium for much-deserved attention.  Here’s to a healthy 2014!
