Results from a recent study by Accenture Research found that nearly 1 in 5 Americans will purchase benefits from a health insurance exchange by 2017. Insurance exchanges, mandated by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, will transform the way Americans shop, purchase, manage and consume healthcare.
According to the study results, state health insurance (public) exchanges are expected to manage coverage for an estimated 30 million Americans by 2017. Also, the growth of private health insurance exchanges is expected to reach public exchange enrollments levels within the next four years, too.
Accenture Research also found that:
50% of consumers surveyed said they were intrigued by the choice and flexibility the new platforms would offer.
Despite the fact that most U.S. citizens (83 percent) are unaware of private insurance exchanges, their enrollment levels are expected to surpass (state) public health insurance exchanges by 2018.
Survey respondents were attracted to choice, flexibility, the personalized product selection and the shopping experience.
