The tenth annual Survey of Online Learning, a collaborative effort between the Babson Survey Research Group and the College Board, found that the number of students taking at least one online course has now surpassed 6.7 million.
Key report findings include:
Over 6.7 million students were taking at least one online course during the fall 2011 term, an increase of 570,000 students over the previous year.
Thirty-two percent of higher education students now take at least one course online.
As technology has advanced, it is not surprising that online education enrollment has increased steadily. But how are the academic results of these online students? According to the 2012 survey, 77% of respondents reported online learning outcomes to be the same, somewhat superior or superior to face-to-face learning.
As higher education investors, we continue to see great companies being built to meet the needs of this new student demographic. As the online student population continues to grow and the academic achievements remain high, the industry will continued to see steady growth and improvement.
