New board members and new corporate name reflect company’s focus on further developing and growing HealthTeacher, the 10 year-old online children’s health education resource
NASHVILLE, TN (September 11, 2009) – HealthTeacher announced today that Gary Facente and Jon Vice were appointed to the company’s board of directors. The company also announced that it is changing its corporate name to HealthTeacher, Inc., replacing its former corporate parent name, ConnectivHealth.
“Gary and Jon bring strong domain expertise in education and children’s health. As we continue to expand HealthTeacher as a solution for schools and communities to address the health, wellness and prevention needs of children, their experience will greatly help us shape our strategy,” said Scott McQuigg, HealthTeacher CEO. “We are very fortunate to have them both join HealthTeacher’s board of directors.”
Gary Facente is the Chairman of EMC Publishing Co. in St. Paul, Minnesota which serves the K-12, College and consumer markets with products in foreign languages, literature, social studies, health careers and career planning. Previously, Facente was the Chariman and CEO of Delta Education, a leader in K-12 science and reading curriculum. Facente is also a Director of Penn Foster Schools, a distance education provider, and Carus Publishing Company, a family-owned publisher of magazines for children.
Jon Vice’s career in children’s healthcare spans nearly 40 years. “Today’s children face a growing number of health risks, including obesity and social/emotional issues, that without proper education extend into adulthood. As a society we need to do all we can to help children develop positive health habits so they can grow up to be healthy, productive adults,” said Vice. “HealthTeacher plays a proactive role in helping children learn the value of leading healthy lives.”
“Teachers are an effective channel for helping children learn healthy habits and avoid unhealthy behaviors. HealthTeacher meets teachers needs for current, accurate information in easy-to-use, web-based lesson plans that are age appropriate,” said Facente. “ I’m tremendously impressed by the technology and the content of HealthTeacher.”
Facente and Vice join HealthTeacher’s five-person board of directors, which includes the company’s investors, Koleman Karleski of Chrysalis Ventures, Rob Smith of Petra Capital Partners, and Scott McQuigg.
