LOUISVILLE, KY (September 22, 2009) – Chrysalis Ventures, an early-stage and growth venture capital firm investing primarily in healthcare and technology companies in the Midwest and South, today announced the promotion of three investment professionals.
John Willmoth has been named a full-time Venture Partner. Mr. Willmoth, a former senior executive with Nextel Communications, initially joined Chrysalis as Executive-in-Residence in September 2007 and became part-time Venture Partner in August 2008. An expert in wireless communications, his focus is on technology investment opportunities including information and digital media, communications and mobility, and education technology.
Mr. Willmoth has over 20 years of business development, strategic planning, and financial experience, most recently as Vice President, Business Development of Sprint Nextel Corporation. As a member of Nextel’s senior management team since 1989, Mr. Willmoth was instrumental in leading the company through an intensive growth phase via a series of mergers and acquisitions and was responsible for completing several significant new business transactions, including the formation of Nextel Partners, Inc. In recent years, he managed Nextel’s private equity investments and led negotiations with technology, infrastructure, and device partners for the company’s planned rollout of Wimax technology. Mr. Willmoth has a BA from Amherst College and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
Matt Winn has been promoted to Senior Associate. Mr. Winn joined Chrysalis as an Analyst in January 2005 and was promoted to Associate in January 2007. An active blogger, he provides analytical and transactional support to the investment team for Chrysalis’ primary investment sectors: healthcare and technology.
Prior to Chrysalis, Mr. Winn worked in business development for an e-commerce startup. He earned a BA with Honors in Economics from Princeton University in June 2003.
Elizabeth Rounsavall has been promoted to Director of Research and Analytics. Ms. Rounsavall joined Chrysalis as Associate in August 2007. In this new position, she will provide research and analytical support to the investment team for Chrysalis’ primary investment sectors: healthcare and technology.
Prior to Chrysalis, Ms. Rounsavall worked for Booz Allen Hamilton in New York, NY as a Senior Associate where she led project teams in delivering financial and economic research, analysis, and recommendations for clients across a variety of industries including media and communications, banking, and insurance. Previously, she worked for Macmillan/McGraw-Hill as a Technical Consultant and for Simon & Schuster as Manager of Intranet Services. Ms. Rounsavall holds a BA from Yale University and an MBA from MIT’s Sloan School of Management.
